One standard, two agents - what moved to /Users/tom/Codex/remarkable on 9-17Concept

Since 9-17 both agents author paper from one standard under /Users/tom/Codex/remarkable/. Sans-serif at 10.5 pt, and a routing registry that holds Codex documents out of the automatic Claude return path.

Why this matters to you

The paper-doc and remarkable skills no longer carry their own rules; they point to INSTRUCTIONS.md and TRANSPORT.md there. Seven registered documents are on manual hold, and the 9-20 weekly review was the first Claude-built doc rendered with the canonical stylesheet.

A standard that lives in two places drifts. Until 9-17 the paper rules lived inside the Claude skill folder with a copy of paper.css beside them; the Codex design study produced a second set. Tom's fix was to make one location canonical (/Users/tom/Codex/remarkable/) and turn both skills into pointers. The old assets in the skill folder are compatibility snapshots, kept only as a fallback.

The visual change is small and deliberate: plain sans-serif everywhere (Arial/Helvetica), 10.5 pt body on 1.4 line height, 14 pt headings, 8 pt page anchors. The earlier serif-title preference is revoked. Rules are 0.8 pt or darker; checkboxes 5 mm; writing lines about 7 mm apart.

The routing change matters more. PDB/config/remarkable-routing.json lists exact visible names with owner=codex, mode=manual_hold. rm_pull will not pull them, the retention sweep will not remove them, and tagging them 'done' does nothing. There is no unattended Codex worker; held ink is read only when you ask for it in a Codex session. Everything not in the registry keeps the legacy Claude behaviour.

Worked example

See the registry and the stylesheet difference.

python3 -c "import json; d=json.load(open('/Users/tom/Claude/PDB/config/remarkable-routing.json')); [print(k, '->', v['mode']) for k,v in d['documents'].items()]"

diff ~/.claude/skills/paper-doc/assets/paper.css /Users/tom/Codex/remarkable/assets/paper.css | head -30
▶ Do it now
  1. Run the first command and confirm the seven held names match what you see on the tablet.
  2. Open /Users/tom/Codex/remarkable/INSTRUCTIONS.md and read the 'Choose the reading job first' table - it is now the rule for every paper doc.
  3. Look at this week's weekly review on the device: it is the first doc built with the canonical CSS. Note anything that reads worse than last week's.

One-card takeaway

One canonical file, two pointers - the same rule you use for CLAUDE.md.
